Published Work | Interviews

This past April 2011,  I was asked to be the second interview for a new section, of an online photography community magazine called Faded and Blurred.  This latest section is called “Work:Life,” showcasing everyday working photographers around the country and possibly, eventually… around the world.  F & B is gaining national and international attention as an outstanding resource for artists and I highly recommend following them on their blog and/or on FACEBOOK . You might even join them for a photowalk in Southern California, where they are based.  I hear so many great things about these walks, but mostly it’s the friendships made and the skills attained by learning from each other in a non-pressured environment.  You will get the most up-to-date information on photography, from incredible interviews with high profile photographers to the latest equipment tests and post-processing tutorials.  This is a wonderful resource and if you have the time to read my interview, I was so very honored to answer the thought provoking questions they asked and I hope you gain something from it and enjoy a bit of the history of my last 9 years.  Thank you in advance:)

I LOVE working with non-profits that strive to better the world around them and benefit children, in particular.  I will be working for the organization “Innercity Struggle,” for the third year in a row, at their annual honorary banquet this October 2011.   This special organization helps empower parents and their children to gain skills, to stay the course in school, and earn equitable results in achieving goals towards college.  Innercity Struggle has worked with youth and community residents since 1994 to promote safe, healthy, and non-violent communities in the Eastside.  The good news is that they have grown, and as a result, have recently acquired a much larger facility, in an old historical home, entrenched in the community.   Ordinary citizens making a difference in their community.  I’m looking forward to this opportunity again and to other opportunities with these organizations in the future.

In June of 2009, I covered a 2-day lobbying junket from the street protest, in front of the Los Angeles School District, to taking several buses, with over 100 members of the SEIU Local 99, up to the capital offices in Sacramento, to lobby the policitians to stop the budget cuts against, basically, “the legs of the school district.”   I worked along side of the press, for the union, making sure they had documentation of their fight and covering their passion and will to make change.  **This was one of the most interesting jobs I have ever done.  I traveled up to Sacramento, through the night, after covering a protest, during the morning in Los Angeles, and I met school bus drivers, janitors, teacher’s aides, etc., and people who were really passionate about saving their jobs.  I covered several lobbying appointments in the state capitol.  From there, my work was published in a quarterly magazine that goes out to all members of the SEIU service workers organization.  It is also enlarged and all over the walls of the Local 99 offices in downtown Los Angeles.  My images were also published in several newspapers, from this event.

After being assigned to work on Union Bank’s annual **Corporate Social Responsibility Report in 2010,  I was also put on their freelance list, and I hope for a few more opportunities with them as well.

**PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS MY “WORK”.  MY PRIVATE AND/OR PERSONAL OPINIONS/POLITICS ARE MY OWN AND HAVE NO BEARING OR INFLUENCE ON ASSIGNMENTS INVOLVING ANY TYPE OF CONTROVERSY.  I LOVE WHAT I DO AND MY GOAL IS TO DO THE BEST POSSIBLE WORK FOR MY CLIENTS AND TO ACHIEVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD AROUND ME.  THANK YOU.
